It’s Alive!
I am writing this on my own computer*. Yes, you heard me. My computer. It is fixed and working perfectly.
* Well, with the added magic of Mahinda’s motherboard, processor and CD-drive.

Right, things have been happening!
Interview
The interview in Bristol went well! OK, enough exclamation marks!
Sorry. Right.
It was a very nice city, and I imagine it stil is. The weather was wonderful, which it won’t be right now. The talk with the supervisor was good; I’m interested in the subject (exploring the links between Neural Nets and Non-Monotonic Logic — that is, logic where adding assumptions can invalidate inferences. It’s the logic of ‘usually’, if you’re not asleep yet — which are both part of areas that traditionally not got along with each other. In other words, this is Somewhat Exciting.) I also felt I gave a favourable impression of myself. Um. I think.
The Weekend
In which I talk about things that have happened!
It was a good weekend, despite my feeling rather drained and negative for most of it.
Saturday saw Pitch ‘n’ Put at Heaton Park for the 2nd time. Pete fell over again. A baby hedgehog got lost on the 18th fairway. I nearly got under 100. It rained a little. In the evening we went to a succession of pubs before I couldn’t take it any more and went home.
On Sunday Mahinda (with help from Alsion) made all the Goonies a Laksa type thing, which was very nice. The Turnip Rolls, however, were… let’s not talk about the Turnip Rolls. Also, Aloe Vera juice is like frogspawn. Then we say Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (which is pretty much brilliant) and then 24.
Computer
I might have another go at it tonight. Hold me.
1. Summer is here
Yes, the sun is out and I’ve already had my first BBQ of the year. Awesome.
2. I have an interview
… in Bristol for a PhD. My future is officially in my hands again. I must confess to having felt very disheartened and fatalistic about all this, so I am now a happy bunny.
3. A winner is me
Last night was the last Manchester uni student poker event of the year, which I decided to attend rather than the MUGSS EGM & slave auction. Entry was a pricey £10 for the 29 starters, including Mahinda and the Hoose.
To cut a long story short, I won and walked out with £115. Which was nice.
After meeting up with much of the MUGSS lot in Scubar for a quick couple of pints it was to home and a kebab, but not before I decided to jump down some stairs without taking into account Mr. Ceiling. I now have a rather nice lump at the centre of my forehead. I shall call it Alfred.
Next Thursday I’m off to Bristol University for a PhD interview.
Suddenly life seems good again….
Oh and yes, my PC is still broken.
mahinda, if you’re reading this, I might need a copy of XP and your admin password. Erm. Yeah, things went a bit tits up.
