China Miéville - Perdido Street Station 5/5
Dark fantasy set in half-steampunk, half-magical world. Lots of interesting races, and a city (New Crobuzon) that is like Ankh Morpork gone bad. Plot revolves around an escaped menace that terrifies even the Ambassador of Hell.
China Miéville - The Scar 5/5
Sequel to above, set mostly on the oceans of the world. The universe is fleshed-out nicely and the central character is particularly interesting; aloof and uncaring, or so she thinks.
Terry Pratchett - Reaper Man (re-read) 4/5
I love Pratchett, though this isn't quite as good as I remember. It's still rather early-period, and I think he's generally improved with age.
Joseph Heller - Catch-22 (re-read) 5/5
Possibly my all-time favourite book. The world is insane, and the only people who really realise it seem insane by its standards. I love the way Heller plays on your expectations and subverts meanings until you expect it to happen in every sentence.
